Fátima Ramis, PhD
Expert Advisor, Social Science & Research
I believe conservation is most effective when it is human-centered.
My work is rooted in the social sciences, using structured methods to understand patterns, values, and decision-making in rigorous ways. This helps anticipate how communities will respond, ensures projects are co-created rather than imposed, and provides practical tools to navigate conflict and trade-offs.

The Work I Do
I especially enjoy projects that begin with uncertainty or complexity, where the path forward is shaped collaboratively—by the insights of my clients and the voices of the communities they serve. That often looks like:
Community-driven initiatives where inquiry sparks change and ownership
Research and action projects that lead to real shifts in practice
Efforts that integrate traditional and ecological knowledge into decision-making
Initiatives that strengthen collaboration across organizations instead of working in silos
Fun Fact
I am from the island of La Hispañola, Dominican Republic.
What It’s Like to Work with Me
Working with me means having a trusted partner who makes the process feel secure, exciting, and purposeful. My goal is for organizations to walk away with a true sense of accomplishment and a stronger connection to the communities and audiences they serve.
